Getting help

Start with the panel: under Details, Run the checks names the piece that is not working and says in one sentence what to do about it. When you write for help, send the one line the panel shows, the list of checks as it stands (a screenshot is fine) and, if you like, the audit log exported from Details or the setup page; it holds one line per request the extension made to your portal and never what you typed.

Students: the Trial Edition is free for approved institutional accounts (ask for access); your lab lead is the first line of support. Beyond that, the maintainer may help through the address below, at his discretion and without a response-time promise (agreement, section 9(b)).

How it works

After installing the extension and accepting the agreement once on its setup page (and once your account is approved):

1. Open your portal tab. Sign in to your university's Open OnDemand portal the usual way (VPN first if your university requires it) and keep the tab open.
2. Click the Beethoven icon. The first click asks your browser once for access to that one site. Then the extension does the rest by itself, in order, and says in one line what it is doing: it wakes the portal up, checks you are signed in, confirms your account is approved, installs its small set of scripts in your own cluster account if they are not there, shows you where your work goes and takes your statement about it, starts your worker through the portal's own shell, and waits for Claude Code to connect.
3. Sign in to Claude once, when the panel asks. The extension opens Anthropic's sign-in page in a new tab; you sign in with your own Claude account, click Authorize, and paste the code that page shows into the one box in the panel. The code is typed once into your own job's terminal and is not kept. When your worker connects, your session's claude.ai page opens in a new tab (you can turn that off), and the panel's Open in Claude button opens it again any time.

The worker is a job on the cluster, not a program on your computer. Once the panel shows Open in Claude, close the panel, the portal tab, the browser or the laptop as you like: open claude.ai/code or Code in the Claude app from any device, pick the environment named after your site, and carry on. The job queues its own successor before its time is up, and the successor continues the same session. The portal is needed again only to stop the worker, to start one after you stopped it, or if the cluster ended the chain.

Installing

Once a browser's store has approved the listing, Beethoven installs from that store like any other extension: no developer mode and no file to unpack. Until then, the product page offers each browser's package as a direct download. The Safari package is the input for Apple's converter on a Mac, not something Safari installs by itself; Safari is untested.

Disputes

Section 19 of the agreement: before any lawsuit, the party with a claim sends the other a signed written notice (name, the e-mail in the access record, the install id shown with your acceptance record on the extension's setup page, the problem, the outcome wanted) and both sides have 60 days to resolve it, with a call if either asks. Claims are individual (class-action waiver), heard by a judge (jury waiver) in Wayne County, Michigan or the Eastern District of Michigan, or in small-claims court where you live. There is no arbitration clause in this version. Nothing in the agreement takes away a right your state's law does not allow to be waived.

Refunds and outages

The Trial Edition is free, takes no payment and converts to nothing; approval can be withdrawn and the edition can end with 30 days' notice, and because nothing is paid nothing is refunded. When Beethoven stops working because of an outside dependency named in section 7 of the agreement (your university's cluster, portal, network or policies; Anthropic; your browser or the store you installed from; your own accounts), there is no claim against the licensor; access is restored where practical once the dependency works again (section 9(c)). A paid Full Edition, if ever offered, would be a separate agreement with its own terms.

Security

Report a security problem privately to the notice address, not in a public place. Good-faith research within the law is welcome. Details: the SECURITY policy shipped with the source.

Your records

Your acceptance of the agreement (version, text hashes, what you ticked, your typed name, the time) is kept in the extension's own storage in your browser with the exact texts beside it; the setup page lets you save and print them. Licensor keeps access records for the life of your access and six years after.
